Steacy/Booth Class, Germantown Friends School

In a spin on a traditional booktalk - in which a person gives a short, persuasive speech to entice someone to read a particular book - the Germantown Friends School Steacy/Maile Fifth grade created brief multimedia podcasts to get others reading.

After reading a novel of their choice from the children’s collection of Friends Free Library, students wrote original scripts to “sell” their books.  They provided just enough information about the book to engage their audience and leave them wanting to read all about it!  The children then searched for images on the web to compliment their scripts.  Finally, they used Apple’s GarageBand software to create podcasts by recording their scripts and inserting the images they found.

We have made the podcasts available online so that students in other classes can see what the fifth grade class has been reading - we hope you find some great titles to add to your own “must read” lists!
