History of Discovery:

Calcium was discovered by Sir Humphrey Davy in 1808. He discovered Calcium by electrolyzing a mixture of lime and mercuric oxide. Davy also discovered the elements Potassium, Sodium, Magnesium, Boron, Barium, Chlorine, Strontium, and Iodine.

Calcium Info:

Chemical Symbol- Ca
Atomic Mass- 40.078
Atomic Number- 20
Family Name- Alkaline Earth Metals
Group- 2A
Period- 4

Calcium Carbonate- aka. Chalk
Made up of Calcium and Carbon
What Calcium is in:
(Common Uses)

- Road Salt (Calcium Chloride)
- Chalk (Calcium Carbonate)
- Dairy Products
- Plaster
- Cement

Isolation Method:

Calcium is not found as a metal itself, but in minerals such as Limestone (Calcite- Calcium Carbonate), Gypsum (Hydrated Calcium Sulfate), and Fluorite (Calcium Fluoride). To isolate Calcium, you electrolyze one of these three.
