Helium's Highlights
Helium's Fun Facts:

-it is the second most abundant element in the universe except hydrogen.

-It makes you have a squeaky voice if you are in a helium rich atmosphere.

- there is 23% helium in the sun.

-Helium is not toxic.

Helium's common uses:

-Is used in all lighter than air balloons, hot air balloons and blimps. Helium is also safer than Hydrogen because hydrogen is highly flammable and helium is not.

Hot air Balloons use Helium to fly. What a view!
This is the Makeup of a Helium atom. The Helium atom has two neutrons and Protons in it's Nucleus, and 2 electrons in it's orbital shells.
How Helium was founded and how you isolate and purify Helium:

It was discovered spectroscopically in the sun by Sir Joseph Lockyer of England in 1868. Independent spectroscopic discovery in the sun by Pierre Janssen of France in 1868. Isolated on earth by Sir William Ramsay of England in 1895. To isolate helium from uranium in commercial quantities is impossible, but the more recent discovery that helium is a constituent of natural gas made possible the present-day developments. Its purification is one of the major problems today, however, a few people have managed to get very close to purifying helium by first compressing unpurified helium in a compressor, than cooling it in a cooler. Next, you would use a water separator to feed the Helium through a helium-permeable oxygen/nitrogen impermeable membranes, then through a second membrane. This technique is used for purifying helium for Blimps and achieves 99.999% pure helium.

The Good Year Blimp uses Helium to float. Blimps used to use Hydrogen to float but Hydrogen is highly flamable so blimps switched to Helium, the safer element.
