Isolation
The isolation (separation) of platinum is usually complex. You first treat the ore or base metal byproduct with aqua regia (a mix of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid). This gives a solution with gold and palladium complexes. They then remove the gold from the treatment, then the platinum is removed by precipitatiopn.
