Cadmium was discovered in Germany by French Stromeyer in 1817. He discovered it while investigating some zinc carbonate.

The name Cadmium comes from the Greek word kadmia and from the Latin work cadmia.

Cadmium can be a bright yellow, orange or red pigment that used to be used for artists.

The isolation of Cadmium starts with zinc ores. The zinc ores are roasted to form zinc oxide or ZnO. Then you add carbon. This forms zinc metal. Next zinc can be put in a vacuum and this allows any cadmium in it to separate.
Cadmium is a soft bluish metal
