Mining and purification of Carbon

- Carbon is mine in two forms, South Africa in the form of diamond and in the form of coal mainly found east of the Mississippi R. After it has been mine it has to be purified. Coal is purified through a system called purification. This is when the mined coal is fired in a boiler then watered down. After that the coal is packaged and sent to the store to for your grill or sent to the water purifying. Carbon is also found in the air as food for plants. It combines with oxygen as CO2.

History of Carbon

-Carbon has been known since the early 18th century but it wasn't until 1789 when A.L. Lavoisier named it carbon from the Latin carbo meaning "charcoal".
