·      Uses of Silicon:  to make concrete and brick, can be refractory material for high temperature work, in form of silicates, it is used to make things like pottery. In form of Silica, it can make things like glass. If doped with boron, gallium, phosphorus, or arsenic, it can be used in transisters, solar cells etc. feeds plants, converts solar energy into electricity.

·      Family name: Silicon

·      Where in household goods: Pottery, Glass, Computers, Bricks

·      Electron Configuration: [Ne]3s23p2

Fun Facts: Silicon is the second most abundant element on earth.

Silicon is the 8th most abundant element in the universe

Silicon when mixed with oxygen is silica/sand

Silicon can be purified by melting it and then cooling it into a solid. the impurities are the last to re-solidify. Then one could crush it ans soak in acid. The impure dissolves in the acid. This leaves behind a pure product.
