You may think you are looking at some pretty chairs, but when eighth graders create these projects they are actually looking at what's not there or the "negative space". In these observational drawings, students not only concentrate on negative spaces to create the empty form of a chair; they also use varying patterns to create floor plane and background which are related to each other through color.
